1. What made you want to compete?
I always loved fitness and always looked up to the people that were in great shape. I needed a positive and healthy goal and saw Fitness Model Camps that were held and decided just one to to get out and do it. This has been the best thing I ever did for my life.
2. What do you do to stay inspired?
I love following fellow WBFF athletes, Vicky, Jared and Brian (those are my kids) and they help me a lot. When Im leaving for the gym, cooking my food or working out at home they watch me. That inspires me to keep moving!
3. What shows have you already been in or plan to be in in the future?
This is my first show and I already know I want to compete for next April. Mohegan Sun is where Ill be. I want to prepare this winter and build good muscle and come back even better. Progression not perfection. I love always having goals to strive for!
4. Who got you started?
I cant really say anyone really got me started. I think for me it was the lack of things going on, lack of “life” and saw myself becoming stale. I want to be more, to inspire and to help other people be more like how I see myself being more. I think the most important person to get YOU started is YOU. No one can get up and get your dreams unless you do!
5. Who do you look to for help now?
Since I began 15 months ago, I have made some amazing friends. I am forever grateful for each one of them. I dont work out alone, I always have people to help me stay accountable, coaches and my husband. Looking ahead into the future makes me see how my present habits effect how my kids will be able to take care of themselves too. Thats really important.
6. Where do you usually workout?
I used to work out at YMCA but I needed a change and when they opened a brand new facility that was still close by, I turned to LA Fitness in Cranston RI. It is my favorite place to be now and made some incredible people there too!
7. Do you use any suppliments? If so, what ones (brands, names, etc)
I dont really use any supplements. I used to try some here and there and they all see great but right now Im not taking anything for supplements.
8. What are your most noticeable results?
My drop in body fat went from 38.9% to 12% in 15 months. I was dedicated everyday, did it healthy, researched and kept going. I took a look at my eating habits and I wasnt happy with myself. Ive turned that around and now I use what used to be embarrassing now as my #1 tool to help myself and others.
9. Has fitness changed your life? If so, how?
Absolutely. I went from being stuck to enjoying every day of my life. Im a better mom, wife, person, friend and daughter. My only regret was not doing all of this sooner.
10. What personal fitness goals have you set for yourself?
I would be lying if I said I didnt want my Pro Card one day- that would be incredible. My dream is to be a WBFF Fitness Model though. Maybe a Pro Fitness Model! I think about that everyday and helps me get past my rough days.
11. Describe your diet.
I eat 6 times a day with berries as a snack. I stay balanced and once Im not in prep I will allow cheats because you have to treat yourself for your hard work. I love roasting veggies, sushi and fruit the best.
12. What does your workout schedule look like?
Right now its pretty busy but ideally I like going to the gym 4-5 days a week. Cardio makes me feel happier and lifting heavy makes me feel strong and powerful. Leaving the gym makes me look forward to conquering what the world has to dish at me.
13. What do you do for a living?
Currently I am a legal secretary two wonderful attorneys. I am also a wife and a mother of three children.
14. What are your personal non-fitness goals?
I have been accepted into Rhode Island School of Design for their Illustrations Program. My dream outside of the fitness world is to be a published author of children’s books.
15. Have you participated in any other sports?
I did track and field in high school and also enjoyed being a part of the volleyball teams there and in college. I belonged to the gym on a regular basis in high school and remember loving the activities back then too.
16. Here you can mention your family/thank you’s.
I want to give a big thank you to so many people. Madalena for being a big sister to me and showing me what I needed. Tiffany, for coming into my life and joining the gym and showing me important tips t get me started. My husband for helping me meal prep, washing all my Tupperwear and being understanding and supportive for my love of this lifestyle. Brianna for being my running pal and enjoying the love for running. My former husband for being able to help me take care of the kids’ schedules when I was running late from the gym and for taking them to the show. Carol for giving me tons of pep talks at work, Nikki for joining in and working out when I needed a buddy. Victoria, you spice for life and seeing how exciting it is to compete. For everyone I know I am not mentioning by name that instilled so much love and support into my heart that I do feel like a new woman with that amount of inspiration. Thank you for helping me make this possible.
17. Do you have any hobbies?
I love to paint, draw and especially cook! I love to bake with my kids. I grew up with a Portuguese grandmother and she always loved to cook. Now my kids join me at the oven and we bake some amazing treats. I am the pancake mom and in honor of them I have created a pancake idea out of every occasion life has to offer!
18. What are challenges that you face that may keep you from reaching your fitness goals?
Well, money can be a challenge when you have a family. I think trying to balance the family budget while prepping for fitness goals can be tough but it is possible if you give yourself enough time to do them.
19. What obstacles have you overcome to be where you are?
I had to look at myself in the mirror and be 100% honest with myself. That was very hard for me. Every day I face myself and look at who I want to be then apply it out there. Its not easy, many people have brought me down, try to and others havent succeeded but how to face them is the key. Its a choice, whether youre going to allow yourself to be beaten or use that obstacle as a tool to get up and over it. Losing 60 pounds and dropping body fat took a long time and I made the choice to fix myself. You can be your own worst enemy or your best friend.
20. Is there anything else you would like to add that you think we’ve missed?
I dont think so but if I think of something I can always let someone know. Thank you for this opportunity.
